Article 24- Support of the people
| 24.1 |
Support of the people for war |
| |
It is the responsibility of the leader to maintain the support of the people for the military during times of war. |
| |
The support of the people shall always diminish as losses are incurred and the age of the conflict grows. However, this in itself does not mean the support of the people will naturally call for the war to end, particularly if it is a just war. |
| 24.2 |
The behaviour of the leader and the support of the war |
| |
If a leader behaves weakly during war, if the leader displays poor judgment and poor character, then the support of the people of war, no matter how just shall greatly diminish. |
| |
Therefore, a wise leader recognizes that so long as his/her troops are in harms way, they are expected to remain on post, to defer their holidays and all activities of frivolity and public humor. Such is the gravity of war, that anything less displays a deeply flawed understanding of the duty of the political leader in time of war. |
