| 85.1 | Deception | |
| All war is deception.Warfare is the Way of deception. |
||
| Therefore: | ||
| (i) if able, appear unable | ||
| (ii) if active, appear not active | ||
| (iii) if near, appear far | ||
| (iv) if far, appear near | ||
| (v) If they have advantage, entice them | ||
| (vi) if they are confused, take them | ||
| (vii) if they are substantial, prepare for them | ||
| (viii) if they are strong, avoid them | ||
| (ix) if they are angry, disturb them | ||
| (x) if they are humble, make them haughty | ||
| (xi) if they are relaxed, toil them | ||
| (xii) if they are united, separate them | ||
| Attack where they are not prepared, go out to where they do not expect | ||
