| Politicization relates to indicators within the military ranks of a possible impending coup. This is when statements contrary to government policy or senior military policy are made publicly. | ||
| When military leaders speak out, make statements of any kind then they are stepping into the role of politician. In some systems of government, this hazardous duality is permitted within a constitutional structure. However, even in these environments, the monitoring of promiment members of the military give signs as to the thinking of these men and women concerning the government. |
||
| A highly politicized military speaking out against the government must inevitably lead either to fractioning into civil war or to attempted coups if these leaders are not immediately stood down. Even then this can be the trigger point for an attempted coup. | ||
