Article 144-Humility |
| 144.1 |
Humility |
| |
Because the goal of military action is political victory, never allow your successful military forces to gloat over a defeated enemy, nor raise their colours, nor parade in numbers.
| |
Such actions are the actions of vain and arrogant generals and shall be remembered for years by the defeated population, ferment discord and hate and lead to political defeat. |
| |
Instead, an occupying force should be humble, remain stationed in positions of law and order and quickly allow local forces to take control over their daily affairs. |
| 144.2 |
Humility before the death and destruction of war |
| |
A soldier, having survived battle, having been victorious should accord the vanquished full military honors. For such is the horror and cruelty of war that every soldier knows it could be their body that lies in ruins. |
| |
Remember then, this final caution- resist all temptations where possible to unleash the fury of war, for when unleashed it must be prosecuted with much violence until its end. In such a process, no person can keep their hands unblooded, their lives unaffected, their souls blemished. |
