Information warfare is the term used for a weapon centric method of warfare involving the use and communication of information itself, especially in relation to media and information networks to weaken the enemies position and strengthen one’s own position.
| |
Sometimes confused with electronic warfare as well as psychological warfare, information warfare is distinct in that electronic warfare concerns the deliberate disruption of information transmitted electronically, while psychological warfare concerns the deliberate use of misinformation to alter enemy behaviour.
| |
In the age of the internet and global media networks, information warfare has become a fundamental and necessary element in any war strategy as the enemy can very quickly and easily gain broad national and/or international sympathy and support for their cause, if not contested and challenged.
